Newgrange

On Friday the undergraduates enjoyed a free day after presenting their final projects the previous two days. A couple of us decided to take advantage of the full day and went on a bus tour out to Newgrange. Newgrange is a prehistoric tomb and place of worship that dates back all the way to 3000 BC. This is a thousand years before the pyramids and 500 years before Stonehenge. Newgrange is one of three major burial mounds in the Boyne Valley area but is the most famous. After our tour of Stonehenge, we went to the Hill of Tara, which is the ancient inauguration site of the Celtic Kings. This hill sits pretty high up and the view of surrounding Ireland is unbelievable. It was an amazing day and quite cool to get some insight into the lives of the very first inhabitants of Ireland.
